The Girls

Doing studio photos of my girls in the past has been like pulling teeth. I avoided it for as long as possible but unfortunately too much time has passed without me taking any decent pics of them.

A few weeks ago Emma and I decided to give it a go. We were determined to get some photos done, come what may, even though the prospect was daunting. We prepared as well as possible, not forgetting chocolate bribes and promises of Santa’s forthcoming visit.

Thankfully it seemed be easier-going this time even though I had moments of uncontrolled crying and gnashing of teeth. Most parents know this well. Those that don’t either drink to much or not enough.

We persevered.

We are happy with the results – so pleased in fact that we ordered a couple of ‘Acrylic Lifestyle‘ products for the girls room and an extra one for the studio.

Check out the images and let me know what you think. All opinions welcome.

L’Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy

We’re delighted that Sugar Plum Hair Salon, a leading boutique hair salon based in Macclesfield, has asked us to photograph their entries for the L’Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy.

Georgina, owner of and master stylist at Sugar Plum, produced a competition worthy hair style that demonstrates their commitment to quality and excellence in hairdressing.

Jo & Valentines

We recently launched a valentines promotion in conjunction with Chilli Banana, a local Thai restaurant in Macclesfield. Jo volunteered to help with the promo shots, and both she and Mike did a sterling job at modelling.

Check out how they featured in the valentines promotion. Let us know what you think!

Here are a few of my favourite shots with Jo, which were taken just as we were wrapping up the session.

Enjoy!

Fun in the Park

Rachael and her lovely family visited Macclesfield yesterday to attend a shoot with me in West Park. You’d expect that a wet and showery start to the day would leave us glum and gloomy. Quite the contrary! It was wonderful, exciting and filled with fun.

Phoebe-Leigh, Rhys and Ashleigh were delightful. We played in the park – on the swings and slides – until we took a well-deserved break for some ice-cream. This was followed by hide-and-seek at the old fort after finding and exploring some hidden treasures in the park.

Beautiful Day

The past weekend was fabulous with Sunday as the climax.  It was beautiful and couldn’t have been more perfect.  My girls and I spent most of it in our back garden, soaking up the rays and enjoying each other’s company.

The twins are a delight and inspirational little people.

High Tea for Daddy

Yesterday I joined my girls for High Tea at their nursery to mark a premature celebration of this coming Father’s Day.

We enjoyed cucumber sandwiches and tea.  The majority of it ended up in my lap as it was my turn to be fed by the girls ;-) .

They subsequently took me on a guided tour of their playground – pointing out the moos on the adjacent farm and hand-holding me through the obstacle courses.

Updating my Portfolio

I have set out to redo and make consistent my portfolio in an ongoing drive to improve quality, value and the range of my products and offerings.

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of shooting Helen as part of this and I wanted to share a short video featuring a small selection of images captured during the day.

Check out what Helen had to say about the shoot and the images.

Enjoy!

Approaching outdoor portraits

Available light and the environment is not always ideal when trying to shoot a portrait outdoors.

Let me describe a typical scenario here:-  Midday autumn sunshine creating strong and contrasty pockets of light, blown highlights and subjects squinting into the light.

Add to that a background that’s filled with all sorts of distracting elements, such as I’ve found when I took my kids to a local park this weekend.  Let’s not forget the ‘unwanted’ attention for taking pictures in a public place.
